The Clean Cooking Unit (CCU) is a specialized unit within the Energy Resources Department of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD), established to coordinate and accelerate the transition to clean cooking in Uganda. The Unit provides policy leadership, sector coordination, monitoring and evaluation, knowledge management, and technical support for the implementation of the National Integrated Clean Cooking Strategy (NICCS). It works closely with government agencies, development partners, the private sector, academia, civil society, and local governments to promote access to affordable, modern, and sustainable clean cooking fuels and technologies.
The Unit leads implementation of the National Integrated Clean Cooking Strategy promotion of clean cooking technologies to increase access to sustainable energy solutions.
Primary Activities
Responsibilities of the CCU include
o Effective sector coordination;
o Strengthened private sector participation;
o Mobilizing finance and investment;
o Data consolidation, knowledge management and information sharing;
o Increased access through supply and demand side interventions.
